ITTA BENA -- Kevin Burwell scored a career-high 23 points Saturday night to keep Mississippi Valley State on a historic pace. The senior point guard led the Delta Devils to a 70-58 win over Alabama State at the Harrison HPER Complex in front of a crowd of 3,445.
The Delta Devils (11-11, 10-0 SWAC) cruised to their 10th straight victory and will stay at the top of the conference standings.
Valley, which held a 29-24 halftime lead, led the entire game.
Paul Crosby added 15 points and seven rebounds while Terrence Joyner chipped in 15 points and five boards before fouling out.
Ryan Watts led Alabama State (8-14, 5-5 SWAC) with 13 points off the bench while Tramaine Butler put up 12.
MVSU hit 20 of 45 (44.4 percent) and went 23 of 31 from the charity stripe.
The Delta Devils will be back in action on Monday at 7:30 p.m. against Alabama A&M.
