MVSU at the 2011 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

The women’s program finished seventh at the 2011 SWAC Indoor Championships while the men finished sixth.

Xandria Cash finished fourth in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 25.06 seconds while placing third in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 56.32.  Joyce Chumo finished fifth in the mile run with a time of 5:28.56 while Winni Tauni (12th  -  5:43.45) and Irene Cherbuet (13th – 5:44.40) each placed in the top 15.  Chumo (4th), Cherbuet (10th) and Tauni (11th) also finished in the top 15 in the women’s 3,000 meter run.  Chumo and Tauni also were eighth and 15th in the women’s 5,000 meter run.

In the women’s 4 x 400 meter relay, the Devilettes team of Queona Williams, Cash, Angel Williams and Jeannie Knox finished fifth with a time of 3:56.58.  In the distance medley, the team of Chumo, Jovanna Peterson, Denai Greene and Tauni finished fifth with a time of 13:15.80.  In the triple jump, Alicia Wimley placed sixth with a mark of 11.17 meters (36 feet, 7 ¾ inches).

In the men’s 3,000 meter run, Daniel Kibet finished second with a time of 8:46.48 while Jose Lopez (4th – 8:48.59) and David Pulliam (6th - 9:10.16)  also finished in the top ten.  Kibet then won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:39.16 while Lopez was third with a time of 15:42.29 and Hezron Chepkwony was sixth with a time of 16:06.15.   The men’s 4x400 relay team of Ladavey Merriweather, Paul Cox, Quintin Weeks and Earl Winter finished sixth with a time of 3:24.41 while the distance medley squad of Lopez, Merriweather, Victor Kiplaget and Pulliam finished third with a time of 10:47.69.
