Three members of the Devilettes women's volleyball team received post-season honors as the 2009 SWAC Volleyball Tournament kicked off. Lonnie Hoff was named 2009 Newcomer of the Year; Maura Moed was named all-conference and all-division while Kantessa Bryant was named all-division.
Hoff, a 5-foot-8 junior outside hitter from Standard, Alberta (Canada), has been a consistent contributor for the Devilettes this season. She posted a 1.87 kills per set average in 2009 and had a season-high .525 hitting percentage against Alabama State. She tallied 194 kills, 14 assists, 18 aces, 163 digs and 35 total blocks. Hoff was named the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Week twice this season.
Bryant, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Dallas, Texas, completes her career at MVSU with a spectacular season. She had 260 kills (2.36 kills per set), 20 assists, 66 service aces, 235 digs (2.14 digs per set) and 46 total blocks. Her 0.60 service aces per set ranked her second in the conference and fourth in the NCAA Division I in the category.
Moed, the preseason player of the year, was again one of the most versatile players in the conference. The 5-foot-9 junior middle hitter from San Antonio, Texas led the team in kills (293) and blocks (108). She also tallied 48 service aces, 74 digs and seven assists.
