The MVSU Devilettes volleyball team saw their season end as they took on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in the semifinal match of the 2010 SWAC Volleyball Tournament.
After winning their opening round match against UAPB on Friday, the Devilettes took on Alabama A&M in their second-round contest. In a match that saw ten ties and six lead changes, the Devilettes fell in three sets (9-25, 13-25, 19-25).
Lonnie Hoff led the team with 10 kills and three digs. while Maura Moed added seven kills and two blocks.
In an elimination contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, MVSU downed the Lady Lions in four sets to advance to the semifinals. The match scores were 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Three Devilettes registered double-digit kills led by Maura Moed's 18 kills and four blocks. Lonnie Hoff tallied 11 kills and 11 digs while Bry Williams added 10 kills, nine digs and four blocks.
In Saturday morning semifinal action against the Bulldogs, the Devilettes fell in three sets (13-25, 20-25, 23-25). The match had 16 ties and nine lead changes (eight in the final set).
Moed finished with 11 kills while Williams had eight kills and eight digs. Moed was named to the all-tournament team.
The Devilettes went 2-2 in the two-day tournament. Moed had a team-high 50 kills and 13 blocks while Hoff added 42 kills, 24 digs and four blocks. Williams tallied 24 kills, 31 digs and 12 blocks while Mandee Fruson and April Brown combined for 103 assists (Fruson-60, Brown-43). Jane Peterson garnered a team-high 70 digs while Mika Krienke had 10 digs, six aces and 10 digs on the weekend.
MVSU ends their season with a 23-11 overall record.
