February 04, 2012

ITTA BENA - The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State stretched their home win streak to eight games Saturday following a 65-50 win over Alabama State at the Harrison HPER Complex.

The win keeps MVSU (11-10, 8-2 SWAC) at the top of the SWAC standings and gave them revenge from a Jan. 7 loss to the Lady Hornets (8-11, 5-5 SWAC).

Three Valley players reached double-figures, with Ka'Neisha Smith leading the way with 14 points and six rebounds. She went 6-of-10 at the free throw line. Alia Frank chipped in 12 points and nine boards while Khristina Clemons provided a spark off the bench with 12 points.

MVSU led 30-22 at halftime and never looked back.

The Devilettes scored 22 points off of Alabama State's 22 turnovers.

MVSU hit 24 of 57 shots (42.1 percent) and converted 15 of 29 free throws. ASU went 19 of 54 (35.2 percent) from the field and went 1-of-15 from the arc.

The Devilettes will be back at home on Monday when they host Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m.
