Mississippi Valley State University

The position of Provost is senior among the vice-presidents and serves as president in her absence. Additionally, this officer is the chief academic officer who holds ultimate responsibility for the direction and success of the University’s academic functions. As chief operating officer, she holds the ultimate responsibility for the daily operations of the college with the exception of the president’s office and is charged with ensuring that systems, policies, and procedures are in place to provide direction to all units within the University. Responsibilities of this office include:

• In the absence of the president, indirect oversight of the University’s vice-presidents

• Development and or approval of academic plans, budgets, policies, and processes

• Oversight of the University’s academic programs and curriculum

• Oversight of the University’s off-site centers

• Oversight of the University’s effectiveness, assessment, research, and strategic planning processes

• Oversight of the University’s Information Technology infrastructure

• Representing the University in public forums, state-wide agencies, and in the president’s absence

The provost works with the associate and assistant provosts as well as the deans and the Academic Policy Council regarding these responsibilities.
