Effective Tuesday, January 1, 2013 Mississippi Valley State University will welcome the changes in leadership positions pending IHL Board approval.

Dr. John D. Jones will transition from the position of Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Strategic Planning to Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and serve as a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet.  He will remain the University’s SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison and recently performed yeoman’s work in guiding the institution through the SACSCOC reaffirmation process.

Dr. John D. Jones brings a unique set of skills and expertise in higher education administration, as well as over 20 years of higher education experience at the senior administrative level, seven of which are direct experiences in academic administration as an associate and assistant to the chief academic officer.  Dr. Jones completed his undergraduate education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. After working with the Department of Social Services in Mecklenburg County, he pursued and completed his master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in education research and evaluation and higher education leadership. Other experiences in higher education administration include assessment of student learning and academic administrative operations, academic program assessment and development/implementation, and grantsmanship.

Dr. A. Zachary Faison Jr., will transition from the position of Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to the President to Chief of Staff and Interim Vice President for University Advancement/Executive Director of the MVSU Foundation. Dr. Faison will continue to serve as a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet and the University’s Legislative Liaison.

Dr. A. Zachary Faison Jr., has demonstrated outstanding leadership as Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to the President for over three years here at MVSU. While serving as  MVSU’s Chief of Staff & Legislative Liaison, he has led the university to unprecedented legislative advocacy success having secured a total of over $18 million dollars (an 80% increase over the previous three years) for university capital projects and campus infrastructural improvements.

Dr. Faison is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Albany State University (ASU) in Albany, GA, where as an ASU Presidential Foundation Scholar and member of the ASU Honors Program, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2002. Dr. Faison earned a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from the University Of Georgia School Of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia having been admitted to practice before the bars of both the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. As an advancement and development professional, Dr. Faison holds the Certification in Fundraising Management (CFRM) designation from the Philanthropy School at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and is a graduate of lobbying guru Bob Guyer’s “The Lobby School”. As a higher education administrator and executive, he has formerly served as a Director of Alumni Affairs, Director of External Relations and Leadership Gifts, and as a Special Assistant to the President.
