Since the inception of Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), the University has focused on the educational needs of the Mississippi Delta. For 64 years, MVSU has transformed its students to be critical thinkers, exceptional communicators, and service-oriented, engaged, and productive citizens of their communities. Today, it offers that same academic experience through its online distance learning courses.
“Here at Mississippi Valley State University, we’ve recognized online courses as an innovative instructional delivery method that grants students access to college through flexible scheduling,” said Dr. Kenneth Done, assistant vice president for online and extended education.”
Approved and accredited by the College Board and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), MVSU currently offers online courses in early childhood education, communications, social work, social sciences and business administration. All online courses taken can be transferred to any accredited college or university. MVSU also offers two degree programs that are fully online – a Master in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in organizational management. The online MBA program requires the completion of 30 credit hours with a concentration in both management and finance. The online organizational management program requires the completion of 120 credit hours.
About 44 percent of the students enrolled at MVSU are in at least one online course. “Our target audience for online courses at MVSU is not only traditional students, but we invite those nontraditional students as well,” said Dr. Done. “We aim to help those who are working full time and want to attend a university to better their quality of life.”
The Office of Online and Extended Education works with all academic departments, the local business community and cities in the service areas to develop educational responses to newly identified needs.
