MVSU Coaches Take Part in Itta Bena Summer Camp

July 07, 2014

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Several Mississippi Valley State University coaching staffs recently took time out of their schedules to volunteer at the Itta Bena Youth Summer Program at the Brazil Center.

Volleyball head coach Douglas Hunter and soccer coach Fabio Boateng teamed up to instruct the youngsters on the game of soccer. The coaches put the children through a host of drills to introduce some to the game while others became more acquainted. The MVSU football staff also volunteered at the camp and went over a variety of drills with the children.

Boateng said he enjoyed the time he spent and hopes it has a positive impact on all those involved.

"Giving back to the community is paramount to me," he said. "As coaches we help mold the lives of young ones through sports. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those little ones enjoying themselves while learning a new sport they are not accustomed to is priceless. It gives me joy."

Hunter said community service is necessary to help build MVSU.

"The lifeline of the university is directly related to the positive interaction with the community," said Hunter.
