Parking and Traffic regulations

Mississippi Valley State University

The University's Police Department has the responsibility and the legal authority to enforce traffic and parking regulations.

The University considers the use of a vehicle on campus as a convenience and is not obligated to furnish unlimited parking space to accommodate all vehicles. The University will, however, attempt to provide a reasonable number of parking spaces in keeping with available resources.

Every person operating a motor vehicle on University property is responsible for obeying all traffic and parking regulations as well as all state parking and traffic regulations.

All vehicles operated on University property must display a valid parking permit.

The term "visitor" is interpreted to mean an individual with no official connections with Mississippi Valley State University as either a student, faculty member, staff or an employee of a private contractor doing business with MVSU.

Visitors should obtain a visitor parking permit from the University's Police Department or the guardhouse booth on Valley of Scholars Boulevard. Visitor's are required to show a valid driver's license to obtain a visitor's permit.

The University's Police Department does not provide transportation to or from off-campus locations, which includes transporting individuals to the hospital. Individuals may request an ambulance during an emergency by calling the University Police emergency number 254-2700/ or 3478/3479.

If a vehicle becomes temporarily disabled and cannot be parked in its assigned area, the owner of the vehicle must report the situation to the University Police Department. The fact that the vehicle is temporarily disabled will be recorded and an Officer will either render assistance or authorize temporary parking. Temporary parking will only be authorized for 24 hours or less. If parking for a longer period is necessary, it must be renewed at 24 hour intervals. Temporary parking will not be authorized in areas that are not parking spaces (tow away or no parking zones, etc.) or handicap parking.

A permit may be obtained for display on a disable vehicle. For these purposes, a disabled vehicle is a vehicle that has been disabled for more than one day. Permits may be obtained from University Police.

Services such as jump starts and unlocking vehicles are offered by the University Police Department as time permits. The University Police Department does not change flats, push cars, or perform any automotive service.

Mississippi Valley State University has added two new one-way streets. They are William Copland Loop and William Sutton Administration Building.  The entrance to William Copeland Loop is located at the intersection of William Copeland Loop and Fannie Lou Hamer.( Between the Laundry and Cafeteria).  The entrance to the William Sutton Administration Building is located at the East end of the William Sutton Administration Building (Between the William Sutton Building and the Social Science Building).

Parking at the William Sutton Administration Building is exclusive for Faculty, Staff, and Visitors. The parking areas are all reserved except where it is designated visitors or meter. No student or visitors are allowed to park in those reserved parking spaces at any time.
